We’d this inkling that it was only a matter of time before a PoGo-infused camera came to market, and at long last, we finally know (well, sort of) how long we’re speaking. Sometime in 2009, the aforesaid company will be pushing out a digital camera that includes an on board printer based around the Zink technology. The device will be capable of ejecting 4- x 3-inch prints, and curiously enough, it sounds like you could actually have a state in what it looks like. No, seriously — hit the read link and have a look.

Instead of being stuck behind some A-hole driving 20 miles per hour under the speed limit while talking on his cell phone, you’ll soon be stuck behind a very similar A-hole trying to balance a laptop on his dashboard.
According to Twice.com, Chrysler’s parts division will start selling “a Mopar vehicle cellular/Wi-Fi hot spot, expected to be the first of many Internet offerings from the automobile companies” starting August 25th.
The hotspot device will be compatible with all 2009 Chrysler automobiles and certain earlier-year models. Customers will be able to order new cars with the device installed or bring compatible automobiles into Chrysler dealerships to have it retrofitted.
The router will cost $499 and will grab EVDO signals as well as WiMAX signals. The CEO of Autonet Mobile, the company that supplies the device to Chrysler, says that the router can be converted for use on all cellular networks. I’m assuming since Chrysler’s pushing EVDO, this will either be a Sprint or Verizon affair.
Interestingly, the monthly service charge will only be $29. That actually seems reasonable. Again, the device itself costs half a grand and you’ll need to fork over $35 to $50 for installation, followed by a $35 activation fee. The service will be sold by Chrysler as “Uconnect Web” starting at the end of the month.

Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes. For $22.99 you can charge four USB-powered devices plus another regular DC-powered device in your automobile. Not that we weren’t already aware of the FinePix F60fd, but it — alongside the S2000HD, J150w, J120, J110w and J100 — was just made official courtesy of Fujifilm. As for the aforementioned F60fd, it’s packin’ a 12-megapixel CCD sensor, 25MB of internal memory, an xD / SD / SDHC card slot, VGA motion picture mode, 3x optical zoom, 3-inch LCD monitor and USB 2.0 connectivity. If you’re looking for technical pizazz, the 10-megapixel S2000HD is the one to eye, sporting a 15x optical zoom and a video out port. You can take a peek at the rest of the ho hum crowd in the links below.

As the military industrial complex surges forward, so do advances in technology for the public sector. At least that’s how the cold-war wisdom goes. Case in point:
QinetiQ is developing a lens-less, mirror-less, battlefield imaging system with some help from
your DARPA’s deep pockets. The LACOSTE project (Large Area Coverage Optical Search while Track and Engage) aims to set aloft high-altitude (about 20km) drones and air-ships fitted with a special, thousand-strong microscopic sensor array (a “first of their kind,” according to QinetiQ), a “mask,” and image processor to decode the scene and extract an image of the swiftly changing conditions on the battlefield or, you guessed it, city streets. The resulting lightweight and highly-durable system should feature a “super resolution” mode with the ability to “detect and simultaneously track large numbers of moving automobiles in dense urban areas with a high degree of accuracy, 24-hours a day.” And here you thought
CCTV was intrusive.

Anita Lillie at the MIT Media Lab created an Arduino-based sleep tracker to process where she keeps her arms while thrashing in the great deep sea of sleep.
The ideal part is that she created a graphing system that shows her movements and positions while she slept.
My main problem with waking up in the morning is that feeling of grogginess along with an intense desire to sleep more. However, I’ve noticed that sleeping without an alarm clock, and just waking up whenever I wake up, helps. And I’ve also noticed that sometimes when I wake up I am dramatically more refreshed than usual. Reading about sleep on the internet led me to learn more about sleep cycles. One interesting page (”The power of the Sleep Cycle”) claimed that it wasn’t the amount of sleep one gets, but the part of the sleep cycle we wake up in. The author suggested that, because we sleep in cycles about 90 minutes long, we should aim to wake up in the transition between sleep cycles, since the brain is more alert and refreshed at that time.
A noble goal and a great way to look like a cyborg while you sleep.

Here’s a little DVD burner from Freecom. It just plugs right into a USB of Firewire port and starts working right away — no wall outlet required and no drivers to install. It’ll handle blank DVD media of all flavors (including dual-layer and DVD-RAM) and it’s even got Lightscribe technology just in case you want to inscribe delicate and tender messages to everyone for whom you burn CDs and DVDs.
It’s only available in the UK at the moment (89,99 GBP) but Freecom peddles its wares in the US too, mostly through Newegg and MobilePlanet, so we may see it show up in those fine locations someday.
