How’s this for unnecessary [faux] luxury: Royal Caribbean’s “Oasis of the Seas” will be the largest ship to every float on water, coming in at 1,180 feet long and weighing a cool 220,000 tons. How’s this for unnecessary [faux] luxury: Royal Caribbean’s “Oasis of the Seas” will be the largest ship to every float on water, coming in at 1,180 feet long and weighing a cool 220,000 tons. All that, just to parade around 5,400 n’er-do-wells.

And while you’re struggling to make sense out of your everyday expenses, know that Royal Caribbean spent $1.24 billion making the ship.

Other gems include an onboard tattoo parlor and psychic, and a football field-sized park located in the middle of the ship called, appropriately enough, Central Park.

Fracture, from LucasArts and Day 1 Studios, will be coming in October for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. The main selling point is the game’s deformable terrain feature, which basically entails your character blowing the hell out of the ground to create mounds and/or holes to help you get over and under walls and whatnot. Here’s a recent gameplay video with a couple of the developers pointing out various interesting factoids about terrain deformation like “TD is the new black.” Oh no he didn’t!

Firefox-logo Just a quick update on something we posted yesterday concerning a security vulnerability found in Mozilla’s Firefox web browser (see the original post here).

First, this incident was NOT a zero day attack, as was originally reported. The exploit was discovered by a group called “The Zero Day Initiative” but wasn’t actually a zero day exploit. According to the Mozilla Security Blog, the details of the problem will be kept private but it’s not a public exploit and “the risk to users is minimal.”

Second, we reported the exploit as a Firefox 3 issue, but the exploit affects Firefox versions 2.x and 3.0, so it’s not strictly a Firefox 3 issue.

We sourced this CNET article, which does contain accurate information. We apologize for any confusion that our original post might have caused.

Griffin Technology just released a gaggle of “3G iPhone” accessories, which, considering the minute changes in form factor, is basically a marketing play. To keep your sweet phone safe they’ve a $40 Nu Form case and to speak to your friends and neighbors there’s the SmartTalk headphone converter ($20) and TuneBuds ($30) ear buds. Finally, you have the Streamline armband. As Shiny Shiny writes, it’s “so great for sports enthusiasts” and who among us doesn’t sincerely enjoy sport?
