Sony just outed its newest HD camcorder dubbed the HDR-CX12. We’re looking at 1,920 x 1,080 AVCHD video from a 10 megapixel ClearVid CMOS sensor, BIONZ image processing, image stabilized Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T 12 optical zoon lens, a 2.7-inch LCD, 5.1 surround sound mic, and Memory Stick PRO Duo (4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark2) in the box) storage. It’s not the world’s smallest, but it’s only the size of a soda can, AKA, pop can for you mid-westerners. This camcorder also packs Sony’s Smile Shutter tech which automatically throws the shutter (even when in standby) when your subject smiles… or grimaces at having to stand around taking yet another family pic. Smiles can even be prioritized by kids or adults. $900 starting tomorrow or early August for brick-n-mortarers.

In anticipation of the release of the Nikon D700, the rumor mills are in full swing. In April, there were rumors about the new body design. Then in Might, information came out about Nikon’s possible hybrid viewfinder. It is now June and we have yet another new Nikon D700 rumor.
The fine people at Photography Bay are reporting that they have photos of promotional material for Nikon’s sexy new camera. If this is indeed real, here are some of the features to look for: FX Format, 12.1 Megapixel CMOS Sensor, EXPEED Image Processor, 14 bit A/D Conversin, and 16 bit Image Processing. Still no word on pricing or release date, though.
We’ll have to wait until Photokina 2008 to find out which rumors are true.

YouTube is a great way to get a message out. It’s also a great way to make a name for yourself as a filmmaker. And soon, through a new deal YouTube is offering its partners, filmmakers will be granted to publish long form videos through the site, up to two hours long each.
This is large news for the on the internet video world. As YouTube branches out from its Web-based roots to devices like the iPhone or Apple Television, the idea of being able to watch a real film on demand is very obvious. While you likely won’t see the latest from Hollywood right away, you’d be able to discover new indie and low-budget productions you might have missed otherwise.
Right now uploads are limited to one gigabyte, which for a decently compressed Quicktime motion picture is more than enough allowance. We’d expect the next move to be an upgrade to HD, again for content partners only, but that, coupled with an Apple TV, could really put the devices into living rooms.
