Pentax has announced the “Student Photography Program” to help budding photographers get the right equipment at a discounted rate. All you need to do to cash in on the savings is:

Purchase the PENTAX equipment from an authorized PENTAX dealer between April 1, 2008 and June 30, 2008

Complete a PENTAX Student Program form

Students must provide photography class enrollment certification (class schedule or copy of registration) and a copy of a valid student identification.

Educators must submit a copy of course curriculum for their photography class and a copy of a valid faculty identification.

Just out of curiosity did anyone have a Pentax K1000? I’ve got the new K200D, but I’m thinking of picking up a film camera and I’m told the K1000 was what each photography student had back in the day.

Who’s ready for even more high-tech ads? Short on cash, the metro in DC will install a type of interactive ad, apparently already present in other public transportation hubs around the U.S. The ads only appear once you walk by. Once someone has walked past an ad, an infrared beam is broken which triggers software to display an ad. That video up there shows it off quite nicely.

Ads, ads, ads, they make the world go ’round.

The WaPost’s headline is even more ominous than mine: Ads That Follow Your Every Step. How wonderful it is to be alive in a world where so many things are made affordable (Android) so long as you’re willing to sit through some adman pitching you his great new product.

To be fair to DC, the guys running the station know that ads carry a certain stigma and want to incorporate them as painlessly and artistically as possible.

Richard Garriot AKA Lord British is taking a custom, space-proof Seiko Spring Drive watch into space when he heads for the International Space Station next year. The watch is air tight and weighs 92.5 grams. It has oversized buttons to tap when using big space gloves, a 12 hour chronograph, and a GMT hand. Price is unannounced and only 100 will be made. It has a 53 mm body made of titanium and steel.

I’m a fairly large Seiko fan and this one looks astounding. Thanks to Spring Drive technology the watch has a sweep seconds hand like most mechanicals but uses a quartz movement.
