Interesting perspective in this article from Spain’s AS sports newspaper this day. (I read AS and Marca for La Liga news.) A 22-year-old rally race vehicle driver named Jari Matti Latvala won the 2008 Swedish Rally at the weekend. AS’s headline put it this way: “The PlayStation Generation Arrives.” Almost poetic, which is how AS rolls.

Obviously the implication from the headline is that children who grew up playing rally automobile racing video games have now become the drivers themselves. The rest of the article drops the names of other young, up-and-coming drivers like the 18-year-old Andreas Mikkelsen.

It’s more of a sports profile article, but I thought some of you would get a kick out of the newspaper’s characterization of the young drivers.
